AMD eyes $400M private offering

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. plans to raise $400 million in a private offering of senior notes


California-based AMD (NYSE: AMD), which employs about 1,900 workers in Austin, expects to use the capital to repurchase its outstanding 8.125 percent senior notes due 2017 through a tender offer launched Monday, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission


The chipmaker founded in 1969 is one of the largest employers in Austin


In February, AMD announced plans to raise $500 million with a private offering of senior notes due 2019


In March 2013, the company disclosed finding a buyer for its Southwest Austin facilities, which is called the Lone Star Campus, to generate $164 million. In tandem with the sale, the company signed a 12-year lease to occupy part of the 812,350-square-foot site
