The expansion of the Austin Studios facility at the Mueller Development is moving forward and the city of Austin has issued a Request for Qualifications for architectural services for the project. A pre-response meeting for the project is scheduled for Sept. 22 at the studios on East 51 st St

The architecture contract is worth an estimated $578,000 and the total expansion will cost $5.4 million, paid for by a bond project approved by Austin voters in 2012

The expansion will allow the development of the former National Guard Armory Building, which will open up 75,000 square feet of space for use by creative companies. The converted space is set to open in 2016

Earlier this year the Austin Film Society, which manages the Austin Studios property, was seeking anchor tenants to help determine the configuration and layout of the space. AFS executive director Rebecca Campbell said her group is in negotiations with tenant candidates. Finalizing the architectural contract and specifics of that job will help determine more of the financials needed before a deal can be signed, she added

She said an agreement with prospective tenants should be finalized later this year
