Kitchell Corp. — one of the largest construction companies in Arizona — has opened an Austin office with plans to make major headway in the Texas health care sector, as well as other contractor specialties

Kitchell may quickly become a notable local player on Austin's hot land development scene. It has the ability — and desire — to buy large tracts and develop them in-house. It's also used to going head-to-head with major national contractors such as DPR Construction and Hunt Construction Group, both of which are major players in Austin

Kitchell jumped onto the local scene via health care. Last fall, Kitchell delivered the 143-bed Scott & White Hospital - College Station along with an adjacent clinic and medical office building. The contractor is also rebuilding the exterior of the Scott & White Center for Advanced Medicine in Temple and remodeling the Scott & White 1700 Clinic in College Station

An affiliated company, Hardison/Downey construction, is building a 42,000-square-foot education building for South University in Round Rock
