Austin-based Asure Software Inc. said Tuesday it has acquired Provo, Utah-based technology firm FotoPunch in a $4.5 million deal

Asure, a 150-employee company that specializes in workplace management software, has been working with FotoPunch since 2012

FotoPunch provides cloud-based time and labor management and uses facial recognition as part of its applications

The previous partnership between the two companies allowed Asure to compliment its workforce management solutions delivered via the cloud. The products are aimed at helping executives, managers and workers manage an increasing number of alternative work arrangements such as telecommuting

The products focus on collection of time and labor management data, helping cut costs and improve work-flow efficiency, the company says

The companies worked together on AsureForce GeoPunch, which offers photo-based time clock technology that can transform a cell phone into a “biometric, geo-located time clock,” executives said

The purchase should have no impact on Asure’s Austin operations, but FotoPunch founder and CEO Tom Loveland will join the company’s executive team as a result of the deal
