Austin-based Sparefoot, which helps people search online for self-storage units, is adding 31 employees to its Austin call center as it prepares for another year of growth

The five-year-old company operates a website that compares the prices of self-storage units. Users can book a storage unit the same way they book a hotel room on

Sparefoot has more than 8,000 storage facilities listed nationwide. The company’s service is free for consumers, it generates revenue from transaction fees paid by storage operators

Call center workers handle inquiries about self-storage rentals from customers nationwide. The positions are full-time, and include free health insurance for workers and families and stock options

The new hires will more than double the company’s current 20-person call center staff in preparation for the summer, when Sparefoot expects its call volume to double

Sparefoot moved its four-person team to Austin from Los Angeles in 2009 to participate in Capital Factory’s incubator program

Today, it has 102 employees and in addition to the call center, it plans to expand its development team this year

The company has reported raising $4.5 million from investors including Silverton Partners, Floodgate and Capital Factory. Sparefoot doesn’t release specific financial information, but Gordon said revenue grew 100 percent in 2013 over the previous year
