TechStars LLC attracted a healthy crowd and generated a measure of excitement with its first-ever demo day in Austin Tuesday

The Colorado-based incubator drew 750 attendees — including 250 investors — to the event at the Austin Music Hall. Ten startups presented their business models during the three-hour event

TechStars, a business incubator established in 2006 by four entrepreneurs, received 850 applications for its first Austin incubation program that operated at the Capital Factory downtown. TechStars provides each startup with $18,000 in seed funding for a 6 percent ownership stake

Among the company presenters on Tuesday were Embrace Inc., a retail customer management software maker, Testlio Inc., a community of mobile software testers, and Accountable Inc., which develops HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance software

TechStars is among several business incubators to begin operating in Austin in recent years to capitalize on the growing number of Web-based technology startups launched by local entrepreneurs. The Austin Business Journal reported on the trend in May
