Austin company launches storage space website for military

SpareFoot Inc. has developed a website targeting military veterans


The Austin-based online marketplace of self-storage space options has launched SpareFoot Military Storage to assist active-duty and retired members of the military find storage space 


The additional business is designed to benefit the Virginia-based non-profit National Military Family Association. SpareFoot will contribute $1 to the group for every SpareFoot Military Storage reservation that results in a move-in, company executives said in a statement Tuesday


SpareFoot employs 120 workers. It was one of the five startups that completed the 10-week Capital Factory incubator program in 2009


Last month, SpareFoot completed a $10 million Series C round of financing from New York-based Insight Venture Partners. Company executives said they plan to use the capital to fund engineering and product development. They expect to employ nearly 160 workers by the end of the year. Most of the new workers will be in customer service, engineering and product development


Previous investors have included the Capital Factory, California-based Floodgate Fund LP and Austin-based Silverton Partners
