An Austin-based company recently broke ground on an upscale multifamily development near the Grand Parkway in a growing Houston suburb between Katy and Sugar Land

Oden Hughes LLC is building a 342-unit, Class A community near the intersection of the Grand Parkway and the Westpark Tollway in Richmond. Parkside Bella Terra apartments will be part of the upscale master-planned community Lakes of Bella Terra within the Lamar Consolidated School District. The project is scheduled to open in the spring of 2015

One- to three-bedroom units will range from 565 to 1,700 square feet in size and rent for between $800 and $2,200 a month

Amenities will include a resort-style pool and sun deck, outdoor fireplace, 24-hour fitness center and a dog-washing station. Amenities for pets is a hot trend in the multifamily industry, according to experts

Parkside Bella Terra will be the third project in the Houston area for Oden Hughes. The 354-unit Parkside Grand Parkway in Katy, the developer’s first in the Houston area, opened in February. In April, Oden Hughes began construction on the 384-unit Parkside Place at the northwest corner of FM 2920 and Kuykendahl Road. That project, which is four miles from Exxon Mobil Corp.’s (NYSE: XOM) new 385-acre campus, is scheduled to open early next year

Here in Austin, the company is building out an upscale apartment community west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 290 and Texas Highway 71 near Oak Hill
