Austin is ranked as the No. 5 startup city in the U.S., according to a report released Wednesday by Philadelphia-based  RJMetrics, an eCommerce analytics company

RJMetrics, which used Meetup’s public API, chose the top 30 cities ranked by meetup group membership, then ranked them by the tech industry density, total number of meetup groups and percent growth in number of meetup groups in 2013

The reason behind using meetups as the base for the report? Human capital determines success of a startup and meetups are “human capital factories,” said Tristan Handy in an RJMetrics blog post laying out the results
