The Center for Digital Government has listed Austin as one of the best cities in the U.S. for its tech savvy government communications and information practices

Austin was ranked 6th in the nation in the 2013 Digital Cities Survey, but due to the many ties on the list there are actually 10 other cities ranked above it. Topping off the list is Boston, while further down the list, Austin is tied with Chicago

Users of the city’s data portal can view a trove of information about Austin’s government sphere, such as animal shelter intake numbers and the locations of dangerous dogs

Fraga also highlighted the city’s online 311 system, the Austin Public Library’s online catalog, and the city’s combined transportation, emergency and communications center which coordinates emergency responses among seven city agencies

The survey ranks cities based on 10 priorities, including government transparency, use of civic mobile apps, among other factors
