Austin's Kohana Coffee among Inc.'s fastest-growing food, beverage company

Austin-based Kohana Coffee was named one of the Top 10 fastest-growing food and beverage companies in the country with a three-year growth rate of 2,417 percent and 2013 revenue of $2.8 million

Victoria Lynden founded the company in 2006 after a fortuitous trip to Hawaii, where she discovered a smooth brew of java like she'd never tasted before. The company sells liquid coffee concentrate, roasted beans and a new cold brew coffee drink in a can, which recently debuted

Kohana Coffee ranked No. 6 on the list of food and beverage companies. It ranked No. 171 in the Inc. 5000, which was recently released and featured numerous Austin-based companies

As part of the company's model, financial support is provided to coffee farmers and environmental issues play a strong role in corporate policy. One percent of the company's profits for its new canned coffee drinks will be donated to clean water projects around the world

Whole Foods Market Inc., Central Market and Wheatsville Coop are among the retailers that carry Kohana Coffee. Corporate offices are on South Mopac Expressway. Austin-based Casa Brazil handles Kohana's roasting and the manufacturing is handled out of Northern California

The fastest-growing food and beverage company on Inc.'s latest list is Quest protein bars in El Segundo, California, with a three-year growth rate of 57,347 percent and 2013 revenue of $82.6 million
