Austin semiconductor company bought by tech giant Qualcomm

Black Sand Technologies Inc., an Austin-based "fabless" semiconductor company, has been acquired by technology giant Qualcomm Inc

Black Sand disclosed on its website that the deal concluded June 18 with California-based Qualcomm, which develops digital communications products. Company officials couldn’t be reached for comment

In early 2012, Black Sand completed a $10 million Series C round of funding. Investors included Massachusetts-based North Bridge Venture Partners and Austin Ventures LP. At the time, executive said they planned to use the capital to increase production for use in 3G phones, tablets and datacards
