An Austin tech company that partners with lotteries has acquired a Kansas appmaker

Austin-based Shoutz Inc. acquired the Kansas City-area company, Front Flip, for an undisclosed amount. Front Flip’s mobile app, which allows users to sign up for multiple loyalty programs, has been downloaded more than 1.3 million times and is in use in more than 800 retail locations across the U.S

Shoutz is privately held with about 50 employees, 15 of whom are in Austin. The company also plans to hire two or three more locally in the coming weeks. Last year, Shoutz reached a partnership to become the official app provider for Powerball and Mega Millions, the two largest lotteries in the U.S

Shoutz’s app, LotteryHUB, offers players ways to track their lottery tickets by scanning them with a mobile device. It also includes videos of live drawings and stories of past lottery winners, jackpot alerts and an archive of past winning numbers, including information on unclaimed prizes

While app providers in Austin for national clients are not uncommon, the company’s president Brad Duea, a veteran of Napster and T-Mobile USA, has said he believes the lottery industry is “a quiet giant of entertainment” poised to explode

Front Flip has 5 employees, which will be folded into Shoutz’s staff, said Shoutz spokeswoman Jamie Smith

Both companies, Smith said, provide loyalty engagement software – but to different industries. Shoutz was attracted to Front Flip because of the powerful platform behind its mobile app, she said. It offers businesses simple tools for creating and managing loyalty campaigns, then makes it easy to gain customer insights from those campaigns

“Our partners are in the retail, gaming and entertainment industries, while Front Flip has primarily been implemented in the food service industry,” Smith said. “We’re looking forward to strengthening our existing products, potentially bringing Front Flip to new markets, and continuing to deliver great experiences for our partners’ customers”
