Big Red Dog Engineering & Consulting has acquired Johnson Consulting Engineers Inc. Both companies are based in Austin

Will Schnier, CEO of Big Red Dog, did not disclosed the transaction details. “There is money changing hands, but that’s confidential,” he said

Schnier said total employee count will increase to about 70 after the acquisition and total revenue will exceed $10 million in 2014

Founded in 2009, Big Red Dog is one of the Austin Business Journal’s Fast 50 companies. The 2014 Fast 50 final rankings will be announced next month. The company landed on the the same list in 2013 and 2012

In a 2013 interview with ABJ, Schnier said he had ambitious plans to be a national heavyweight and publicly-traded company someday

Johnson Consulting Engineers is a mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design company

“Our clients have consistently told us that MEP engineering was a discipline ripe for the Big Red Dog value proposition,” said Brad Lingvai, Big Red Dog co-founder

Added Schnier: “When we asked our clients about their favorite MEP engineering firm, Johnson Consulting Engineers was at the top of every list unanimously.”

David Johnson, president of Johnson Consultant Engineers, now becomes a vice president and MEP practice leader at Big Red Dog

Big Red Dog is handling a number of major projects under construction in Austin, including Lamar Union, which was featured in this recent report from Austin Business Journal. Other developments in the queue are the remediation of Waller Creek in association with Waller Creek Conservancy; Corazon, an apartment and retail project in East Austin nearing completion; Capital Studios, an affordable housing project in downtown Austin by Foundation Communities; Hotel Van Zandt, South Congress Hotel and Kimber Modern Hotel, all hospitality projects by different developers
