CLEAResult Consulting Inc., a large energy efficiency company based in Austin, has acquired Colorado-based Populus LLC

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed

Populus, founded in 2006, will now provide its energy efficiency services as part of the CLEAResult brand while retaining offices and employees in the Boulder, Colorado, area, according to a company announcement

CLEAResult CEO Glenn Garland said in the announcement that Populus’ approach is a natural extension to CLEAResult’s residential offerings

Austin-based CLEAResult, founded in 2003 with two employees in Houston, employs more than 1,250 workers in more than 40 cities in North America. It mostly works with electric and gas utilities in designing and implementing energy efficiency and peak-reduction programs

On the most recent Austin Business Journal Fast 50 list, which ranks the fastest-growing companies based on revenue growth, CLEAResult ranked No. 10 among companies posting more than $10 million in annual revenue. In 2012, CLEAResult reported revenue of $120.5 million

Company executives have attributed the growth to looking at best practices in the industry and creating benchmark goals for its customers — 90 percent of which are utilities

Trends such as energy efficiency mandates in states across the country and the overall awareness among utilities and consumers that better efficiency can save money have also helped CLEAResult increase business, Garland has said
