The Central Texas Angel Network set another record for startup investment during 2014

The Austin-based group invested $14.6 million in 33 startups last year compared with $9.3 million in 32 startups in 2013 — a 57 percent increase and the largest amount invested in a single year, Executive Director Claire England told Austin Business Journal. England took over the leadership role at CTAN last month

CTAN, which launched in 2006, is a group of wealthy individuals, including many former entrepreneurs. The group, which includes more than 130 members, ranked as the nation's No. 4 angel group in terms of deal flow last year. In 2012, members invested $8 million in 28 companies

The rise in local angel capital investments was mirrored by venture capital deals in the Austin area that increased 34 percent last year, reaching $813 million. It was the largest full-year amount of VC funding since local startups raised $880.4 million in 2001 — the year after the dot-com bubble, according to Dow Jones VentureSource
