Wetzel Engineering Inc. will relocate its corporate headquarters from Kansas to Pflugerville and bring with it about 48 jobs, the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. announced today.
The company will take over 5,600 square feet previously occupied by Community Impact Newspaper and located at 821 Grand Avenue Parkway just north of Austin's city limit. Wetzel is expected to move 12 employees this month and expand its staff immediately, according to a press release.
Wetzel provides engineering services for several industries, including those focused on wind energy and aviation.
In exchange for the jobs, the development corporation will offer Wetzel a $4,000 grant for each employee paid more than $60,000 annually, $3,000 for employees paid between $50,000 and $59,999 annually, $2,000 for employees paid between $40,000 and $49,999 and $1,000 per employees paid between $35,000 and $39,999.
The incentives will cover up to 48 employees and require the company to employ and offer benefits to at least 30 employees within three years of the move.
Kyle Wetzel, the company founder, said in a statement that he chose to relocate primarily due to the workforce. He added that the incentives helped to offset the cost of moving from Kansas.
The Pflugerville Community Development Corp. is an economic development agency funded by a half-cent of the city's sales tax revenue. Pflugerville is about 16 miles northeast of Austin and just south of Round Rock.
