Travel + Leisure released its "World's Best Hotels" list this week and only one Austin establishment measured up — the Four Seasons Austin at 98 San Jacinto Blvd

Though all eyes have been on the newer, shinier models — like the W Austin Hotel, which opened in 2010, and the JW Marriott, which makes its grand entrance in February 2015— the Four Seasons has been carrying on with quiet dignity since 1987

Just nine stories tall — the JW Marriott will be 34 stories and the Fairmont Austin under construction will top off at 37 stories — the Four Seasons Austin offers about 300 rooms and a venerable ambiance

With more than 8,000 hotel rooms in the pipeline in Austin, the Texas capital is one of the most vibrant hospitality markets in the country

Austin Business Journal's Jan. 2, 2015 print edition takes an in-depth look at the city's burgeoning hotel market, which will bring some of the industry's most formidable brands to the forefront in the next two years

For now, the Four Seasons Austin is one of nine Texas hotels to earn Travel + Leisure's kudos. The others are Hotel ZaZa, the Ritz-Carlton, Rosewood Crescent Hotel, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek and Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas, all in Dallas; JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa and Omni La Mansión del Rio, both in San Antonio; and the St. Regis in Houston

The Texas-based Hotel ZaZa brand has an Austin hotel under construction at Fourth and Guadalupe streets, but its completion isn't scheduled until late 2016
