GateHouse Media Inc. signed a large lease in North Austin for its expanding division of content and data personnel. The New York-based publisher of newspapers, websites and directors decided to open an Austin location late last summer and is up to 90 employees with 150 on tap by the end of the year

The company currently is operating nearby, and took 18,700 square feet at Northview Business Center, 9001 N. I-35, where Rackspace Hosting Inc. has its offices for now. That company is planning to move employees to the Highland Mall redevelopment next year

David Arkin, GateHouse’s vice president of content & audience, said the company looked at several locations but liked the accessibility of I-35 and the centralized location

The two properties of Northview Business Center, which is owned by an entity formed by Trigate Capital LLC in Dallas, are expansive — in excess of 250,000 square feet. The property, which was built in the early 1970s, originally housed the regional operations of State Farm Insurance, which eventually located farther northwest

Arkin said the company needed a space that was conducive to a large open environment that supported extensive collaboration. He said employees will be moved to the new site hopefully by mid-November but possibly as late as December

STG Design is handling architectural duties and a contractor is still being selected

Arkin said recruitment has been on the fast track
