The new world headquarters for HID Global recently received LEED Platinum certification, making it the only industrial manufacturing facility in Texas to hold this title. The $35 million, 250,000-square-foot facility was constructed to consolidate corporate functions, manufacturing, assembly and test operations, distribution and sales operations

“LEED Platinum certification for our World Headquarters further elevates our award-winning facility as a leading Austin sustainability showcase and a Texas business success story,” says Kevin Teehan, senior director of strategic operations and corporate sustainability with HID Global. “This achievement signifies our Green by Design philosophy and continuing focus on sustainability excellence”

Houston-based Harvey Cleary Builders was the commercial general contractor for the project, while Austin-based Live Oak-Gottesman was the developer. The headquarters was designed by Studio 8 Architects

Green initiatives that contributed to the Platinum certification include water-efficient landscaping, indoor water use reduction, optimized lighting performance from LED fixture selection, thermal comfort verification, construction waste management to reduce the demand for virgin resources and the selection of sustainable materials

The facility opened in January but will not be fully operational until the third quarter of 2015
