Pflugerville will officially welcome the area's newest water park with a groundbreaking ceremony this Thursday

The Hawaiian Falls water park will bring an expected $21 million investment as well as a projected $30 million economic impact in its first year to the city north of Austin. The facility is expected to employ 300 seasonal workers as well

To help facilitate the deal, the Pflugerville City Council approved what is essentially a $23.5 million loan to allow the Hawaiian Parks company to buy land and build the 25-acre water park

The city has already seen some economic benefits from the the buzz surrounding the park – three new hotels are following the water park to Pflugerville. The first, a $17 million Marriott Courtyard could open by Christmas 2014

The Hawaiian Falls water park will be near State Highway 130 and FM 685. The deal initially faced some opposition from residents who worried that the park would strain the city's water supply and create too much traffic in the area. In the end, the deal made it through unscathed
