All eyes have been on the JW Marriott, the 34-story, 1,012-room hotel which opens in less than three months. But the Westin Austin is coming right along down the street, and today the developers and construction crews will celebrate with a topping out ceremony

The 366-room hotel is scheduled to be complete in summer 2015

It just happens that Tuesday's celebration includes many of the same players involved at the JW Marriott

White Lodging Services Corp. of Indiana is the developer of both hotels. In the case of the Westin, the locally prominent Harry Whittington family is a partner. Hunt Construction Group is the contractor. A partnership of Hunt and DPR Construction is building the JW Marriott

The Nov. 18 ceremony at 5 p.m. will include Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell and an assortment of dignitaries

The 17-story Westin will have 14,500 square feet of conference and meeting space, including a 4,500-square-foot ballroom. The hotel, which is designed by HKS Inc. in Dallas, will include a rooftop pool. The hotel activity in downtown Austin continues at a pace matched only by much larger metros such as New York City and Washington, D.C.

The Fairmont Austin recently broke ground on a 1,000-plus room hotel just to the east of the Austin Convention Center. Another recent groundbreaker was Hotel Zaza, which takes its design cues and features from the mothership in Houston. It's rising at West Fourth and Guadalupe streets. The Hotel Van Zandt is under construction on Rainey Street and a hybrid Hotel Indigo/Holiday Inn Express is under construction at East Ninth and Neches streets. Other boutique hotels are under construction in East and South Austin

Across town near Westlake the Hotel Granduca is taking shape and recently was added to a special collection of luxury hotels
