Houston software firm opens East Austin office

Houston-based ChaiOne, a software development company that builds and designs mobile apps for companies, has opened an Austin office

The company plans to continue to design business-to-business Web and mobile applications in Austin, according to a statement. The office will be located at the 501 Studios on San Marcos Street in East Austin

"Austin has always been a center for creativity. Practical utility? Not so much, until lately. We are very excited to participate in the rising, refined discipline of creativity that focuses on helping the industrial user accomplish their goals," said Jared Huke, ChaiOne's director for user experience and design and manager of the Austin office, in a statement

ChaiOne, with 41 full-time employees, is one of Houston's largest and fastest-growing software companies. In 2013, ChaiOne ranked as Houston's 16th largest software company with $3.5 million in revenue, according to Houston Business Journal research

Khandelwal also is a co-founder of Start Houston, a business co-working and incubator space in EaDo. As part of Start, Khandelwal and his partner Apurva Sanghavi created a platform for startups to better connect with investors in Houston and around the country
