IBM Corp. has scheduled a major announcement at its Austin campus Wednesday afternoon to unveil its new software product design studio

IBM offered few details in an email invitation to the opening, other than to say it is a 24,000-square-foot facility

New York-based IBM (NYSE: IBM), which established a local office in 1967, moved its software division from Florida to Austin in 1995. The company, which employed 6,239 local workers in 2012, is Travis County’s fifth-largest private sector employer at its research and development labs and its local Watsons Solution office

IBM’s Austin campus has produced more patents than any other of the company’s development centers
