Austin-based JCI Companies — the development arm of Journeyman Construction — is busy building its diversified portfolio with a groundbreaking of the Hotel Indigo/Holiday Inn Express downtown and a luxury apartment complex in Dripping Springs

Despite the stormy weather Monday, JCI Hospitality held a formal ceremony and lunch at the construction site of the unique hybrid hotel at East Ninth and Neches streets

Designed by Mitchell Carlson Stone Inc. in Houston, the two hotels will have separate entrances — the 167-room Holiday Inn Express will be accessed on Neches Street and the 133-room Hotel Indigo’s entrance will be on Ninth Street. The hotels will be operated jointly by Intercontinental Hotels Group. The projected opening is late summer 2015

JCI Residential, which recently opened its Seville on 4th Street apartment project in Central East Austin, also recently broke ground on Belterra Springs, a 152-unit community situated on nine acres at Trinity Hills and Belterra Drives

The area is just west of the Nutty Brown Cafe south of U.S. Highway 290

The development site is in the Belterra master-planned community, which was acquired in Fall 2013 by North Carolina-based Crescent Communities

Kurt David Goll, president of JCI Residential, said the entitled land was purchased from an apartment developer that decided not to proceed with its original plans

The luxury units — one-, two- and three bedrooms — will be completed in June of 2015 and range in size from 745 to 1,220 square feet

Amenities will include stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, simulated wood floors and nickel finish light fixtures

The clubhouse will include a movie theater, fitness center, resort-style pool and meeting rooms

JCI Residential will begin to build a 300-unit apartment community in Buda, where it developed Silverado Crossing, near Cabela’s. A California family trust purchased the 300-unit Silverado Crossing earlier this year, and the new development will be nearby

JCI Senior Living is building Legacy Oaks, an assisted living and memory care facility in Southwest Austin. The company recently completed the Hilton Garden Inn & Convention Center in Lawton, Oklahoma
