Jones Energy, USA Compression post strong Q1 profits

Two Austin energy-related companies reported strong first-quarter earnings on Wednesday


Jones Energy Inc. posted a profit of $9.3 million, or 13 cents per share, on revenue of $98.2 million compared with a loss of $1.4 million on revenue of $55.4 million during the same period last year, according to a company news release


Austin-based Jones Energy (NYSE: JONE), whose predecessor company was founded in 1988, is a natural gas exploration company. It completed an initial public offering in mid-2013. At that time, the company employed 73 workers


USA Compression Partners LP reported a first-quarter income of $3.9 million, or 10 cents per share, on revenue of $50.2 million compared with an income of $2.5 million, or 7 cents per share, on revenue of $32.6 million during the same period last year, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission


Austin-based USA Compression (NYSE: USAC), founded in 1998, is a provider of natural gas compression services. It services businesses in 13 states and employs 240 workers


The company completed its initial public offering in January 2013 and replaced its chief operating officer in July 2013
