LawnStarter Inc. reported raising $720,000 of a planned $1 million financing

The Austin-based company collected the capital from 21 investors, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission

LawnStarter, which launched in Washington, D.C., in April and moved to Austin in June, uses the Internet to connect property owners with landscaping contractors. It generates revenue by charging 10 percent to 20 percent of what the contractors are paid

The startup, founded by CEO Steve Corcoran and Chief Operating Officer Ryan Farley, employed five workers in August. The two moved the company to Austin after being accepted into the TechStars accelerator program. It previously raised a $110,000 round of seed funding from Virginia angel investors combined with its $118,000 investment from TechStars

LawnStarter's online platform is designed to match consumers looking for lawn care with qualified providers offering such service. With a few steps on the website, customers can get an estimate for yard work when LawnStarter calculates the amount of area that needs to be worked using publicly available data
