MicroVentures Marketplace reaches $50M milestone

MicroVentures Marketplace Inc. has raised more than $50 million for its portfolio companies


MicroVentures was founded in 2009, provides startups and existing small businesses early-stage capital or small investments. The firm, which employs 12 workers, operates offices in Austin and San Francisco. The Austin-based company, has made more than 80 investments, according to a Thursday news release


Founder Bill Clark said he launched the firm to create a user-friendly platform to connect investors and seed-stage startups. It now claims 200,000 investors


“Today MicroVentures not only connects, but leads investment rounds for our portfolio companies – the first equity crowdfunding platform to play this role,” he said in the release


Texas companies represent about 10 percent of the firm’s investments. Portfolio companies include Austin-based Structured Polymers Inc. and Pristine Eyesight Inc., Clark said
