A California-based mobile messaging company with an Austin office is expanding operations and raising its profile after receiving an investment from a local firm

Waterfall Mobile Inc., which launched in 2005, is developing new platforms and positioning itself for a major move after years of gaining momentum in social media tools. The company, which has 15 of its 30 employees in Austin, is making tools designed to enable clients to market through several types of social media instead of just Facebook and Twitter, Austin-based Chief Marketing Officer Matt Silk said.

In 2009, Vista Equity Partners invested $5 million in a Series A round of funding for Waterfall Mobile. Vista Equity operates an office in downtown Austin and Waterfall Mobile opened its local office in late 2009

Silk is expecting the number of Austin workers to double this year

In April 2013, Waterfall Mobile acquired for an undisclosed amount Wisper Inc., a Colorado-based mobile marketing provider specializing in small- and mid-sized businesses

Waterfall’s technology is most popular with retailers and food and beverage companies, Silk said. Its designed to enable clients connect with customers through means such as mobile phone texting, Facebook, Twitter, 2D Codes, voice, mobile wallets, mobile coupons and push notifications. Clients include 7-Eleven Inc., Anheuser Busch Inbev SA (NYSE:BUD) and Electronic Arts Inc. (Nasdaq: EA)
