An 86-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott is set for construction in Cedar Park, the city north of Austin that could also be under consideration for expansion by a Canadian hotel operator

Worth Hotels LLC, based in Wichita Falls, Texas, is developing the SpringHill Suites by Marriott property at 1110 Discovery Blvd., west of State Highway 183, the company said in a statement. When the hotel opens in the first quarter of 2016, Worth Hotels will operate the facility

The hotel will include a full bar and approximately 1,500 square feet of meeting space, along with an outdoor gathering area of about 3,000 square feet. The hotel's outdoor patio and pool will have direct access to the City of Cedar Park hike/bike trail

Solar panels will be installed on the roof to generate a portion of the electricity used by the hotel, while LED lighting throughout the property, above average insulation values and heating/cooling controls will reduce energy use, while installation of low-flow water fixtures and the collection/reuse of grey water for landscape irrigation will reduce gallons of water used to operate the property

The project architect is Bundy, Young, Sims and Potter, Inc. of Wichita Falls

Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi plans to bring his Sandman Hotels, Inns & Suites chain to the United States and expects to build the first Sandman in North Texas with an eye on constructing a second hotel near the Cedar Park Center. Gaglardi is also president of Northland Properties Corp., which has been going on a buying spree of late, including acquiring the operational rights to the Cedar Park Center and purchasing the Texas Stars, the Cedar Park-based minor league affiliate of the Dallas Stars
