PetSmart picks Austin ad agency

GSD&M of Austin has been named the creative advertising partner for PetSmart, the national chain of retail stores for supplies and services for pets. The advertising agency, which is part of the OmniCom family, will spread PetSmart’s message through all media categories to drive sales in all areas of the pet category


The first work for Phoenix, Arizona-based PetSmart is expected to debut early in 2015. The company’s media planning and buying is handled by OMD


Ad Age magazine reports PetSmart began its search for its an agency this summer after handling most of its creative work in-house for years


“We were immediately drawn to GSD&M’s retail expertise and deep understanding of how to turn a brand’s purpose into ideas and solutions for our category and customers,” Phil Bowman, EVP/customer experience at PetSmart, said in a statement announcing the selection. “As we kick off the partnership, we look forward to calling the agency our partner and working closely to distinguish the PetSmart brand.”


Other recent client acquisitions for GSD&M include the Hampton hotel chain, Northwestern Mutual life insurance and financial services, and select projects for the Chipotle fast casual restaurant chain
