Rackspace launches new business unit with Microsoft Office focus

Rackspace Hosting Inc. has created a new business unit called Cloud Office at Rackspace that will provide specialized service for a suite of Microsoft business productivity and collaboration tools


The new unit will have more than 400 employees in Austin and San Antonio providing support for Microsoft Exchange and Rackspace Email, Microsoft Lync and Microsoft SharePoint, and Jungle Disc backup services


The company is in the midst of a major Austin expansion, with plans to hire an additional 500 workers for its new Highland Mall campus


"We've combined the power and expertise of Rackers, who understand that each customer has unique needs in their work environment, with a broad selection of productivity tools to help customers manage and run their business in a way that meets their specific needs," said Bret Piatt, general manager of Cloud Office at Rackspace, in a statement


Piatt said Rackspace is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and a four-time Microsoft Hosting partner of the year


San Antonio-based Rackspace is the founder of OpenStack, the open-source operating system for the cloud, and serves more than 200,000 business customers from data centers on four continents
