Report: PE firm wants to sell Austin's Epicor Software for $3.5 billion

The private equity firm that owns Epicor Software Corp. plans to sell the Austin-based company

London-based Apax Partners LLP is soliciting prospective buyers for Epicor three years after Apax created a larger Epicor by combining it with another software maker. The firm is seeking up to $3.5 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday

Epicor Software, which quietly relocated from California in February, develops enterprise resource planning and retail management software. It was founded in 1984. It’s unclear how many workers the company employs in Austin

In 2011, Apax Partners bought Epicor Software and California-based Activant Solutions Inc. with a plan to combine the two to create a larger developer of enterprise applications focused on the manufacturing, distribution, retail and services sectors. The combined company claimed more than 33,000 customers in more than 150 countries and more than $800 million in annual revenue, officials said at the time
