The Rice Alliance on for Technology and Entrepreneurship is hosting a panel discussion on entrepreneurship in education next month in Austin

The event, at the Thompson Conference Center, will focus on how technology is affecting education. The meeting will be Nov. 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

A four-person panel is expected to discuss how technologies coupled with more funding and a new generation of teachers is positioning the nation for a much-needed shift, organizers said

The moderator will be Troy Williams, president of New York-based Macmillan New Ventures, a New York-based firm that invests in educational technology companies. In late 2012, affiliate Macmillan U.S. bought Austin-based Sapling Learning Inc. for an undisclosed amount

Before Macmillan, Williams advised early-stage companies focused on restructuring, cost containment and product development. From 1998-2007, Williams was president and CEO of Questia Media Inc., a Houston online electronic book offering that was acquired in 2010 by Connecticut-based Cengage Learning Inc., according to his online profile

Tickets cost $25 through Nov. 1 and $30 the night of the event. Student pre-registration is $5; and $10 the night of the event. The Thompson Conference Center is at 2405 Robert Dedman Drive in Austin
