Roku hiring for Austin expansion

Add another one to the growing ranks of California tech companies eager to expand in Austin
This time it's Roku Inc., which makes streaming media players for your television. Within the past 24 hours, the ABJ has reported four major California-based tech companies signaling an expansion. Dropbox Inc. and Websense Inc. are expected to add more than 600 jobs, and Spansion Inc. also appears to have major expansion ideas
Saratoga, Calif.-based Roku plans to open a development center at the Westech 360 building off of North Capital of Texas Highway in West Austin. It could employ up to 50 software and hardware engineers, according to a report in the Austin American-Statesman
"We're here to expand our engineering efforts," Scott de Haas, vice president of Roku's hardware engineering department, told the paper. "We have had difficulty hiring as many people as we want to hire in the Bay Area."
Because of that, the company is now turning to Austin, which de Haas says has tech talent waiting to be hired, this despite the region's impressively low unemployment rate. Roku has begun posting Austin job opportunities on its website, and de Haas said that the company has already received a stream of resumes from hopefuls
