Round Rock tries to hook 1,000 cybersecurity technology jobs

Round Rock is eager to lure another large technology company to Dell Inc.'s backyard


The North Austin suburb is competing with Alabama for 1,000 cybersecurity jobs, according to a report in the Austin-American Statesman. The potential deal was reportedly brought up at a House Committee on Economic and Small Business Development hearing


No other details were made available about the project, which was referenced as "Project Cranberry" by Ben White, Round Rock vice president of economic development, except that it's contingent on state officials approving incentives as part of the Texas Enterprise Fund


As for the hearing that touched on several issues, the future of the state's two job-creating funds — the enterprise fund and the Texas Emerging Technology Fund — was a big topic. With Gov. Rick Perry leaving office in November, some observers question whether those two funds are in jeopardy
