Besomebody Inc., a social media website operator launched by a former GoPro Inc. executive, has completed a $1 million round of funding.
The Austin-based company founded by CEO Kash Shaikh received the financing from the Ohio-based E.W. Scripps Co. Besomebody plans to use the capital to build what it calls “the world’s platform for passion,” a mobile-based technology designed to enable users to post inspirational content, according to a Thursday news release.
Shaikh was previously the senior director of global social marketing and communications of GoPro, the California-based camera maker. Before that he was senior manager of social marketing and communications in developing markets for the Ohio-based Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG), his online profile indicates.
Shaikh departed GoPro in March 2013 “with the vision of transforming his personal mantra of “be somebody” into a brand and platform built in a completely unconventional way,” according to the news release.
Besomebody now reaches more than 4 million people in more than 180 countries. The company plans to generate revenue through a small fee for creating the connection between the person and subject expert called a “passionary.”
