Web development company Thoughtbot Inc. plans to open an Austin office with up to 10 employees within a year

The 70-person company, which doesn't have an official headquarters, but whose largest office is in Boston, is looking for a local co-working space by March. It would later consider moving to a more permanent space, CEO Chad Pytel told me on Tuesday

The Austin office would be staffed with designers and developers, he said

Thoughtbot, founded in 2003, develops Web and mobile applications for early-stage startups and other customers. It operates additional offices in Denver, Raleigh, N.C., New York, San Francisco, Philadephia and Stockholm, Sweden

About 50 percent of its customers are startups with non-technical founders planning to develop Web or mobile applications. The other customers are typically more established businesses enlisting Thoughtbot to solve technical problems, Pytel said
