The Hanover Company, a Houston-based real estate development company, announced Thursday that it will open its Hanover South Lamar luxury apartments to a limited number of residents for move-in next month

As of now, 3.5 percent of the units have been leased and the company wants to attain its goal of 10 to 15 percent by August 22, according to Rita Anderson, community manager at Hanover South Lamar

Hanover South Lamar is located close to Barton Springs Road, two blocks south of the Colorado River

Anderson said the company is marketing the units as being a walkable distance to Zilker Park, downtown Austin and the University of Texas at Austin campus, and accessible by transit systems on South Lamar Blvd. Preleasing began about three weeks ago, according to Anderson, and substantial completion of the project is slated for the fourth quarter of this year or for the first quarter of 2015

Hanover Co. has also begun working on the first component of the redevelopment of Austin's Thomas C. Green Water Treatment Plant site in association with Dallas-based Trammell Crow and Pacific Life Insurance Co. This component is a 439-unit apartment project with smaller retail and office components. The first units are scheduled to open in early 2016, the Austin Business Journal previously reported
