The Capital Grille confirms downtown Austin opening — finally

It took forever to confirm, but The Capitol Grille is opening this spring in the former Spaghetti Warehouse at 117 W. Fourth St. in downtown Austin’s Warehouse District

The exact opening date has not been released but The Capitol Grille’s Atlanta-based public relations firm confirmed that the upscale chain is moving in. That’s not a total surprise, given that the signs are up on the building, which is owned by Austin-based World Class Capital Group LLC

Nate Paul, the president and CEO of World Class Capital Group, told me almost 18 months ago that The Capital Grille, owned by Darden Restaurants Inc. of Orlando, Fla., would be taking space in the remodeled building. But a spokeswoman for Darden repeatedly denied that it was happening

The Capital Grille will occupy 9,311 square feet — one of the larger spaces for a restaurant in downtown — and seat 284 guests. There will be three private dining rooms in addition to the main seating area

The restaurant will feature personalized wine lockers, which can be leased

The Capital Grille was a favorite with real estate professionals when I covered the real estate beat in Denver and Phoenix. We’ll see if the Austin power brokers follow suit
