Two Austin master-planned communities among nation's top sellers

Two Austin-area master planned developments were ranked among the Top 50 best-selling communities in the country in 2013, according to the annual report by John Burns Real Estate Consulting

Crystal Falls in Leander was the 27th best-selling community in the U.S. with 305 homes sold, a 73 percent increase over 2012. Teravista in Round Rock ranked 37th with 249 sales, a 5 percent increase over 2012, the report said

Crystal Falls was developed by The Lookout Group of Houston. Teravista was developed by San Diego-based Newland Communities, which had five communities on the Top 50 list

Master-planned communities in Texas by far outpaced other states with 17 developments on the list

Retirement community The Villages in Central Florida ranked No. 1 with 3,419 sales. It also was No. 1 in 2012. Irvine Ranch in Southern California was ranked second with 1,444 sales. Third on the list was Cinco Ranch in Katy with 854 sales, which actually was a 13 percent drop from the previous year
