Two of Austin's five entries in the South By Southwest Interactive Accelerator competition made it to the finals over the weekend but neither took the first-place prize

EvoSure LLC and Plum Inc. made the final cut of 18 companies in the business plan contest at the downtown Austin Hilton but weren't selected as winners Sunday night. SXSW received more than 500 applications for the contest and selected 48 to present, officials have said

Founded in 2012, EvoSure, which was entered in the enterprise and big-data-technology category, develops commercial insurance software called RiskPlace that's designed to connect underwriters and brokers for more efficient and profitable transactions. The category winner was Ireland-based Trustev Ltd.

Plum, entered in the innovative world technologies category of the contest, is a home device software maker that was launched as Ube LLC in 2012. The Austin Business Journal featured CEO Utz Baldwin in an August 2013 profile. Canadian company Synbiota Inc. was the category winner

Last year, two Austin startups competed in the Interactive Accelerator, compared with six the previous year
