A California-based mobile messaging company with an Austin office has acquired the mobile marketing services division of Seattle-based Archer USA Inc

Waterfall Mobile Inc., which employs 10 Austin workers, bought the San Francisco-based Archer division that provides mobile engagement services, according to a Thursday news release

Waterfall Mobile, launched in 2005, employs 40 workers post acquisition. The company develops tools designed to enable clients to market through several types of social media instead of just Facebook and Twitter, Austin-based Chief Marketing Officer Matt Silk said in January

Waterfall's technology is designed to enable clients connect with customers through means such as mobile phone texting, Facebook, Twitter, 2D Codes, voice, mobile wallets, mobile coupons and push notifications. It's most popular with retailers and food and beverage companies, he said

In 2009, Vista Equity Partners invested $5 million in a Series A round of funding for Waterfall Mobile. Vista Equity operates an office in downtown Austin and Waterfall Mobile opened its local office in late 2009

In April 2013, Waterfall Mobile acquired for an undisclosed amount Wisper Inc., a Colorado-based mobile marketing provider specializing in small- and mid-sized businesses
