Bethany Perez has a reputation as one of the hardest working brokers in the industry. She specializes in Class A office leasing and has added over 600,000 square feet to her leasing portfolio so far in 2018.

She’s trustworthy, reliable and fiercely loyal. She goes above and beyond for her clients, and they often develop a friendship that goes beyond the office.

To her, family is everything. She married her husband, Dave, in 2006 and has two boys, Tate (4) and Eli (1.5). She’s close to her parents (who live in Lakeway) and siblings and gets together with them as often as she can. She considers AQUILA her second family which means a lot considering how close she is to her family.

A proud Texas A&M Aggie in a sea of Longhorns at AQUILA, Bethany is also one of two female principals at the company.

I sat down for a Q&A with Bethany to learn more about her. Read her answers below to get to know her a little better!

Let’s Start With the Basics:

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: I lived in Houston, Texas until I went to college.

Q: Where did you go to college?

A: Texas A&M, Gig ‘Em!

Q: How long have you been in Austin?

A: Since 2010. My husband, Dave, was in the Air Force and we were stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming for four years before moving back to Texas. Family is what ultimately brought us to Austin!

Q: What is it about Austin that has made you stay?

A: I feel extremely lucky to live in such a fun, dynamic and beautiful city. I love the energy! It’s a young city and there’s always something to do – new restaurants, live music or outdoor activities. It’s also a great place to raise a family with nice communities and excellent school districts. I recently moved to the Westlake area which makes the commute to the office more manageable. Austin really has everything going for it – besides the heat!

Q: What is your favorite part about working for AQUILA?

A: It’s the people. My coworkers and clients are some of the most talented, smartest, creative and loyal people out there…and they also like to have fun!

Q: What makes AQUILA different?

A: At Texas A&M we had a saying, “From the outside looking in, you don’t understand it, and from the inside looking out, you can’t explain it”. I feel the same way at AQUILA. It’s my second family.  AQUILA provides a huge support system, and being a working mom, I couldn’t ask for a better environment. It’s also a place that demands the best and brightest but is one where we have lots of laughs and fun along the way. We communicate well, and we really want to see each other succeed.

Q: What would you say is your key differentiator? Why would I want to work with you?

A: I strive to make my clients’ lives easier by being proactive, thinking outside the box, and making them look good. There aren’t as many women in the industry so I think I offer a different perspective. I’m detail-oriented and have a great eye for design. I’ve been working on a number of ground up developments and large renovation projects lately. I understand what makes a project successful and enjoy being involved early in the design process to help direct the final product.

Now For a Little Fun:

Q: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

A: I get the most joy out of spending time with my husband and our boys. Our weekends usually consist of hanging out with all the cousins. My brother and his wife live five minutes from us and have four little kids. We can usually be found at the Rollingwood Pool or any kid-friendly restaurant that has a playground (Hat Creek or Rudy’s). We also enjoy the Hike and Bike Trail, and we’ve been spending more time downtown now that we live closer.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: To go on a Mediterranean Cruise.

Q: If you won $50 million in the lottery, what would you do with it?

A: I would first give a lot to my church (shout out to Austin Ridge) and then invest in real estate including a nice rental in the California wine country. With the rest I would make tons of memories traveling with my family and friends.

Q: What is your go-to karaoke song?

A: Don’t Stop Believing – Journey

Q: If you could live anywhere in the world and money didn’t matter, where would you live?

A: Austin in the Winter/Spring and California in the Summer/Fall

Q: What’s something most people may not know about you?

A: I don’t have a middle name. (Being the fourth kid, my parents must have run out of names!)

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Austin?

A: Jeffrey’s – it’s an Austin classic. I love the cozy atmosphere and the food, wine and service are fantastic!

Q: What’s your favorite show to binge watch?

A: This is Us, Bachelor/Bachelorette and Billions.
