AQUILA Commercial has been honored with a Good Citizenship award by the CenTex Detachment of the Marine Corps League for its patriotism displayed by flying the American flag at its property UFCU Plaza, located at 8303 North MoPac in Austin.
The Marine Corps league, a veteran’s organization comprised of former United State Marines, honors one Central Texas company each month for flying the American flag. UFCU Plaza was a natural choice for this month’s award based on the size of its flag and its prominent location and visibility at the northeast corner of Mopac and Steck Avenue in Austin.
“Honoring local Austin businesses who fly the American flag is an important initiative for our group,” said Christian Hunker, Commandant of the CenTex Detachment of the Marine Corps League. “It’s a symbolic way of honoring the service of our veterans and troops, but because it can be an expense to maintain, many organizations have cut flying the flag from their budgets over the past several years. By continuing this awards program, we hope to inspire businesses who may have a flag pole to put it to use, and for those who don’t to consider adding one to their property.”
UFCU Plaza’s flag pole rises 100 feet and was installed in 2006. The American flag that flies over the plaza measures 30 by 50 feet – about the size of a regulation volleyball court.
